Celebrating James Stargell’s Retirement & Looking Ahead

This year, we are recognizing an important milestone as Chief Financial Officer James Stargell prepares for retirement after five years with B. H. Graning Landscapes.
While we are excited for James and this next chapter, his retirement is certainly bittersweet. We are grateful for the impact he has made on our company and the strong financial foundation he leaves behind.
Five Years of Leadership and Growth
James joined B. H. Graning Landscapes in 2021, bringing extensive financial expertise along with a unique academic background. He holds a BA in Accounting from Lynchburg College and a BA in English from Randolph-Macon College—a combination that has served him well in balancing financial strategy, operational needs, and clear communication.
During his time as CFO, James has played an important role in strengthening the financial systems that support our growing company.
Among his many contributions, James helped establish and evaluate key performance metrics for our operations, standardized month-end closing and financial reporting processes, and worked directly with members of our operations teams to improve their understanding of financial matters.
His ability to translate financial information into practical knowledge has helped connect our office and operations teams and provided our leaders with better tools for planning and decision-making.
As B. H. Graning Landscapes has continued to grow throughout Western North Carolina, James has been an important member of the leadership team helping us navigate that growth.

The CFO is a key member of our leadership team, responsible for overseeing the financial health of the company while helping guide both day-to-day operations and long-term strategy. This position works closely with company leadership and our administrative and operational teams in areas including financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, cash flow management, compliance, performance measurement, and strategic planning.
We are looking for an experienced financial professional who can build upon the strong foundation already in place while helping B. H. Graning Landscapes continue to grow.
