At B. H. Graning Landscape and Supply, we believe in giving back to our community, and one of our favorite ways to do that is through our sponsorship of the B. H. Graning Perfect Putt Competition at Western Carolina University (WCU) basketball games. This annual tradition not only brings excitement to the Catamounts’ home games but also provides students with the chance to win tuition assistance—all while having a great time on the court.
A Tradition of Fun and Support
Each season, during a timeout at every WCU home basketball game, selected students have the chance to make a full-court putt for a chance to win $100. The three closest competitors throughout the season are then invited back for the final showdown at the last home game, where they have one shot at winning $1,000 toward their tuition.
It’s a thrilling moment, with the entire arena watching as students take their best shot. The contest brings together students, fans, and community members, creating an electric atmosphere that embodies the Catamount spirit.
Meet This Year’s Champion: Jennings Roghelia
This year, the spotlight was on Jennings Roghelia, a sophomore Anthropology major with a concentration in archaeological practice. Originally from Greensboro, NC, Jennings first made waves when he sank a full-court putt earlier in the season, winning the $100 prize. But his moment of triumph came during the final home game, where he returned to sink the ultimate putt and take home the grand prize of $1,000 toward his tuition.
Reflecting on his win, Jennings expressed gratitude for the opportunity provided by B. H. Graning Landscape and Supply.
“Thank you very much for your engagement with WCU. It creates a sense of community that the whole school loves!”
He also shared his future aspirations, stating his goal of attending graduate school after completing his degree at WCU.
More Than a Competition: A Commitment to Community
