On Saturday, December 13, employees of B. H. Graning Landscapes, Inc., along with their families, gathered for our annual holiday celebration—an important tradition that allows us to pause, reflect, and express gratitude for the year behind us and the people who make our company what it is today.
This year’s gathering carried added significance as we continue celebrating 20 years of B. H. Graning Landscapes. Over the past two decades, our company has grown from a small operation with a big vision into a multi-division organization serving communities throughout Western North Carolina. That growth has been guided by a shared commitment to quality, integrity, craftsmanship, and the people who bring our work to life each day.
A Thoughtful Welcome and Shared Gratitude
The evening began with a warm welcome from Roger Murajda, General Manager and Vice President, followed by a prayer and translation led by Jose Moctezuma, Assistant Operations Manager in our Maintenance Division. Their remarks set a meaningful tone for the event—one centered on gratitude, unity, and reflection. A favorite quote from John Muir served as a reminder of why so many of us are drawn to this work: the opportunity to stay connected to the land, work with our hands, and build something lasting.
A Slideshow That Captured the Spirit of BHGL
One of the most memorable moments of the evening was a slideshow of photographs showcasing our employees throughout the year. The images highlighted the daily reality of life at B. H. Graning Landscapes—early mornings preparing equipment, long days on job sites, and the teamwork required to deliver quality results across every division.

Interwoven with these moments were candid glimpses of camaraderie and pride, reflecting the strong relationships that define our company culture. As photos from different seasons, divisions, and job sites appeared on screen, families were able to see firsthand the dedication their loved ones bring to their work. The slideshow sparked smiles, laughter, and recognition, celebrating not only what we build, but the people and teamwork that make it possible.
Honoring a Year of Hard Work
A highlight of the evening was our Year in Review, recognizing accomplishments, milestones, and the everyday dedication demonstrated across all divisions—Maintenance, GroundWorks, BuildScapes, Canton Construction, Administration, Yard & Fleet, and Marketing. From peak summer installation schedules to winter snow and ice operations, each role plays a vital part in delivering consistent, high-quality service to our customers.
We were proud to recognize Employees of the Month, celebrate leadership growth, and acknowledge team members who consistently go above and beyond for their coworkers and clients. These recognitions reflect the professionalism, work ethic, and team-first mindset that continue to define B. H. Graning Landscapes.
Recognizing Outstanding Leadership and Commitment
This year, we were honored to recognize Keith Pannell as our Most Influential Employee, an award voted on by employees throughout the year. Keith’s leadership, steady guidance, and commitment to excellence have made a lasting impact across the organization. His influence extends beyond day-to-day operations, helping shape our culture, mentor team members, and move the company forward.
We also proudly recognized Scott Bassett as our Most Valuable Employee. This award honors the individual who most embodies what we do at B. H. Graning Landscapes, and Scott’s dedication, reliability, and willingness to step in wherever needed exemplify those values. His work ethic and positive attitude reflect the standard we strive to uphold across every role and division.

Giving Back this Season
In the spirit of the season, BHGL employees came together to support our 2025 Christmas charity, WNC From the Ground Up. Through employee donations, our team raised nearly $3,000 to support the organization’s mission of helping Western North Carolina families and communities rebuild, recover, and move forward. This collective effort reflects the generosity, compassion, and community-first mindset that define B. H. Graning Landscapes—not only in the work we do, but in how we show up for those around us. We are proud of our team for making a meaningful impact close to home.
Creativity Beyond the Jobsite
The celebration also highlighted the creativity of our extended BHGL family through the Employee Calendar Contest and Christmas Card Contest. Featuring photographs taken by employees and artwork submitted by their children, these traditions reflect a culture that values family involvement, creativity, and pride in our work—both on and off the jobsite.
Built on People, Growing Together
As we look ahead, the celebration reinforced what matters most—our people. From long-tenured team members who helped build our foundation to newer employees growing their careers with us, each individual contributes to our shared success. The support of families, spouses, and children makes that success possible, and we are grateful for the role they play in the BHGL community.
Thank you to everyone who joined us on December 13 and to every employee who made 2025 a year worth celebrating. We look forward to continuing to grow—together—while staying true to our roots: Mountain Grown. Locally Known.
